Charminar
One of the most popular monuments in Hyderabad, Charminar is a historical mosque built more than 400 years ago by the Qutb Shahi dynasty when plague compelled them to shift their kingdom from Golconda to the newly constructed city of Hyderabad. The intricate carvings on the minarets are a source of great astonishment to the visitors who are just bowled over by its sublime beauty.
Nehru Zoological Park
Also known as the Hyderabad Zoo, Nehru Zoological Park is one of the popular tourist spots, particularly for kids. The place falls just next to the Mir Alam Tank and is home to more than 150 varieties of reptiles, birds and animals.
Salar Jung Museum
Though it started as a private collection of Salar Jung III, the museum was dedicated and opened to the public in the 50s. The 39 judiciously crafted galleries in the museum exhibit artwork, rare paintings, sculptures, carvings, carpets and metallic artefacts from different parts of the world.
Golconda Fort
Constructed on a 120-metre-high granite hill, the majestic fort reached its zenith under the kingship of Qutb Shahis. The fort was renowned for its diamond mines. The legend has it that the world-famous Kohinoor was found in the mines here.
Chowmahalla Palace
The palace was, at one point in time, the residence of the Nizam and is renowned for palaces, vintage galleries, sprawling courtyards and lush gardens on the lines of Indo-Saracenic and Persian designs.
Qutb Shahi Tombs
A landmark monument of historical importance, the Qutb Shahi Tombs are set inside the expansive Ibrahim Bagh. Built by the Qutb Shahi rulers, these tombs are popular for their remarkable Saracenic architecture.
